2019 Bushell Concerto Competition

The Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra is now accepting applications for the 2019 Bushell Concerto Competition! The winner of the competition will be invited to perform their concerto with the Seattle Philharmonic during the 2019-2020 season at Benaroya Hall. The competition is open to all musicians who will be at least 16 years of age as of April 13, 2019 and who are Washington State residents.

Competition Date: Saturday, April 13, 2019
Competition Site: Seattle Pacific University, Nickerson Studios 103
Deadline for Entry: All required application materials must be submitted online or postmarked by March 18, 2019

Completed applications will be reviewed by the competition committee to select the 25 candidates most qualified to compete in the 2019 competition. Finalists will be announced to all applicants by email on or before March 25, 2019.

Applications must include:

  • A completed application form
  • A recording demonstrating the applicant's skill level – Recording materials submitted for review by the competition committee will not be returned
  • Non-refundable entry fee of $40.00

Competition History

The Bushell Concerto Competition is named in honor of the SPO’s first Music Director, Don Bushell, who started this annual event in 1946 to provide a performance opportunity for aspiring musicians. Every year since, this prestigious competition has provided professional development and an exclusive concert performance opportunity for outstanding area soloists.
