The Don Bushell Concerto Competition is named in honor of the Phil’s first Music Director, Don Bushell, who launched the competition in 1946 as a performance opportunity for aspiring musicians.

Each year, young musicians from around the Puget Sound are invited to compete for an opportunity to perform as soloists with the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra.  The 2009 competition winner, flautist Simon Berry, will perform Gordeli’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra with the Phil on May 23, 2010.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2010 Don Bushell Concerto Competition.  Musicians from all instrument classes are welcome.  To apply, download the 2010 Policy and Application documents (below).

The 2010 Competition will take place on Saturday April 10, 2010 in the PONCHO Concert Hall at Cornish College (710 East Roy Street).  Applications are due by February 28.  If you have any questions, please contact the Phil.
